Spotlight:  Buzz Sawyer

Today we take a long hard look at the beefy bearded man in that tiny pair of trunks: "Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer.  Here he is standing back to back with his tag team partner, Brett Wayne, ready for action.
Check out this interesting photo of Buzz and Brett embracing and gripping the same belt.  Buzz Sawyer and Brett Wayne were later known as brothers, but judging from their intimate pose in this picture, I'm not so sure if they are brothers after all.

The 3 Bears are in the ring, where is Goldilocks?

Buzz was a tough hombre when it came to Rasslin'.  Here it takes both Anderson brothers to subdue Buzz, Ole gripping his chin while Arn twists his arm.
Clearly Arn isn't so tough without his big brother there to help him.  Buzz easily pins Arn belly to belly, proving that he is the dominant hairy and beefy wrestler. Buzz loved body contact, often rubbing his hairy belly all over the opponent's body.

Buzz was also known for some brutal and bloody matches.  He pins this opponent with his massive gut, but the dude kicks out.  Sawyer looks disgusted;  he just wants to clean that blood off his face, but the other guy wants to wrestle with him some more.
Just compare the black speedo barely covering Sawyer's meaty physique to the other wrestler's large black trunks.  Is Sawyer trying to save money by buying the smallest size available?


Now Buzz Sawyer is slugging it out with the huge Road Warriors in another bloody encounter.  His trademark skimpy trunks have almost vanished under his big man belly!
Not many men can take down the Road Warriors, but the bearded hunk easily controls Hawk with a side headlock, his armpit covering Hawk's face.

The caption says the "Tommy Rich- Buzz Sawyer feud reaches a bloody end"  and we can see who is dominating whom.  Buzz stands over his enemy, preparing to spike the blond pretty boy's busted face into the steel cage yet again.

Even though Buzz has been cut open, we see that he is destroying his blond opponent, ripping him open with a handful of hair.  I guess his hairy, manly body gives Buzz the advantage over his smooth opponents.

Sawyer is done toying with this blond baby face.  He sets the punk up for the dreaded pile driver, so he can spike Rich's head and shoulders into the mat and hopefully end his career.
Talk about hairy bodies, here is Buzz jobbing to Jos LeDuc.  Because he looked so tough and solid, Buzz was often forced to wrestle some of the cruelest, craziest animals in Pro Wrestling.  Poor Buzz is getting torn up by this beast in a violent grudge match.  Come on stud, push this crazy lunatic off before he kills you!

Buzz probably knew that Paul Ellering was going to wear a tiny speedo, so he went a step further, climbing into the ring in what appear to be his briefs -- size Small.  Buzz is winning the wrestling match as well as the sexy gear contest.
Tully Blanchard is normally the hairy chested bad-ass who dominates his matches, but here we see Tully suffering and beaten as Buzz peels him off the ropes by the hair.
This was when Buzz wore some wild furry boots.  They looked like he skinned a bear or something to make them.  The ref meanwhile looks a bit intimidated by Sawyer's brutality.
Now what is Buzz doing to Tully?  Is he trying to humiliate the other wrestler by standing over him, yanking his head in near his crotch??

Here is Sawyer getting brutal again, this time chained around the neck to Roddy Piper just like a fighting dog.  Is this why Buzz was sometimes called the "Mad Dog"?

Sawyer had the perfect "heel" persona -- manly, powerful, a bit crazy  --  that really made his brutality seem genuine.
