Match of the Year, 1 of 2

On the 12/22/12 episode of Ring of Honor Wrestling TV show, the boys had the night off so they re-played several of the best matches of 2012.  The final bout on the recap show featured two of my favorites:  Adam Cole vs. Roderick Strong fighting for the ROH Television Champion title from back in July.  YES! — I love when a Federation’s meanest Heel beats up the prettiest Face!

This match may not have been chosen as the “Match of the Year” by Ring of Honor, but I am designating it as the official Wrestling Arsenal Match of the Year for 2012  (for whatever that’s worth…)Roddy comes out of the gate in pure Asshole Bully mode, sneak-attacking his young victim, then tossing the poor kid out of the ring, then hoisting him across the shoulders and dropping his skull across the ring apron to snap his spine.  Sadistic Roderick then focused his attack on his Boy-Toy’s achey-breakey back, and that’s why Roderick is a pleasure to watch when he’s in a cruel mood.

Below is an example of the innovative, brutal, squashy moves that Roderick unleashed on Jobber Boy Cole: sidewalk-slamming his spine down across the top turnbuckle cable (courtesy of the I-Love-Wrestling-Gifs blog)…

You might recall that Roderick and Adam faced off earlier in 2012 in an epic “No Holds Barred” match as featured on this Blog in February 2012 (Check out Part 1 and Part 2…)   At that time, Adam wore swirly baby-blue trunks and snow white boots, sporting a real Rookie Jobber appearance. Roddy the Bully spent much of that match pulling and yanking on the light blue briefs and giving Cole wedgies.

Well, this time Adam Cole is a bit older and more mature, and wears masculine black trunks instead of baby blue.  Roddy again gives poor Adam several painful wedgies, but at least Adam looks tougher as he digs that spandex out of his crack because he has grown up and the spandex is black now.

The most sadistic move of the night occurred outside the ring, when my boy Roddy hoisted Adam across his shoulders, ran toward the steel ring post, and then hurled Adam’s vulnerable ribs directly into that cold, immovable post — utterly busting the kid!

That move is so goddamn wonderfully vicious!  And the fragile lad, with his naked torso, and lean waist, and aquiline features, sold the agony beautifully, rolling around on the floor as if he had been thrown into an oncoming train.  Is it gay to say that I love Adam Cole??  (It’s not gay, it’s pro wrestling.)   Somebody enjoyed Roderick’s vicious Post Smasher so much, they created this animation of it:
