So the Miz has inherited the Figure Four Leglock from the great Ric Flair. He has now mastered the hold, and uses it to master his opponents.
Check out the Miz destroying Antonio Cesaro’s knee. Cesaro looks like he is in a state of either uncontrollable ecstasy or extreme pain. The Miz may have an injured shoulder, but that doesn’t slow him down from using his legs to punish the big Swiss bad ass.
Here is an animated version of The Miz converting Cesaro into a submissive tap-out bitch thanks to the power of the Figure 4:
Some people have complained that The Miz does not deserve to own the Figure 4. They say he is not awesome enough compared to Ric Flair. As a Reality Star, they feel he “did not pay his dues”. They complain he is too clumsy in the ring.
Whatever — I am mostly just happy to see this hot hold being used frequently again. I hope The Miz applies the Figure 4 every single time he steps in the ring.
And I think Miz “gets it.” I dig the way he pauses when he has the legs wrapped up but before he sits down to apply the hold. It is these subtle little nuances — grace notes of cockiness — that make me think he IS awesome enough to inherit this hold.
And get a load of that smug look on his face as he humps Primo’s leg: his chin jutting out, his lips peeled back from his gnashing teeth in a dominant sneer, his eyes partially closed as he watches the suffering.
You can assume that this is his exact same facial expression when he is getting freaky or rough. He is also looking buff lately with that muscular torso and those thick thighs that could snap a roof beam in half.
I for one will never contest the inheritance of this awesome hold by The Miz (lest he slap this deadly maneuver on me!)
Now I admit there was one unfortunate incident where The Miz failed to properly apply the hold on Dolph Ziggler and their legs ended up in a tangled mess (a sexy tangled mess, but a tangled mess nonetheless.)
Hey, it’s a complex hold, give him a break. And The Miz admitted he was in a hurry and screwed up the hold, so he needed to get more instruction from the Nature Boy himself. Now The Miz is The Master of the Figure 4 Leglock and I am digging it because I love to watch punishing, excruciating, Old-School, knee-snapping leglocks no matter who is applying them.
Some have criticized The Miz for stealing some of Ric Flair’s antics and moves — but so what? Flair stole much of his persona from “Nature Boy” Buddy Rogers, who probably was emulating an earlier wrestler, but who cares?
If a wrestler borrows the most exciting elements from an earlier performer, and puts his own modern spin on the gimmick, I am fine with that. He is just doing it to entertain us and get us off, just as the earlier wrestler did for his generation.
So I say to The Miz, keep right on using that beautiful Figure Four Leglock. I love it and you’re getting better each time you apply it. Also, keep telling us how Awesome you are — the more you say it, the more we will believe it. The more we believe it, the more arousing and exciting you will appear when you get in the ring. And really that’s the whole reason we watch pro wrestling in the first place.
