I enjoyed this match on YouTube from CWF Mid-Atlantic featuring a classic Big Heel (Zane Dawson) in all black dominating a long haired pretty-boy in skimpy trunks, Andrew Everett. These men are exactly the sort of mis-matched studs we would’ve enjoyed on a Saturday morning back in about 1987. What actually impressed me most about this match was the camera work — the close-up shots and intimate focus, impressive for a single hand-held.
The wrestlers both have read and understand their Position Descriptions as Everett schmoozes with the audience, dancing around the ring looking vulnerable and sexy in his tight little trunks (are those legal to wear without pants??) The Big Brute — Dawson — pisses off the crowd by getting brutal with the heroic hottie. And the camera never misses a shot, keeping our focus on Everett’s bare flesh.
Andrew Everett is actually a ring veteran — having been in pro rings since 2002 when he was just 12 years old. Since 2007, he’s been portraying the Chiva Kid who never caught my interest much because of a bizarre looking goat mask he wore.
His specialty is the high-flying daredevil mode. In fact, his nicknames express both his dexterity and his sexual desirability — “The Apex of Agility,” “The Epitome of Aerial Perfection,” and “The High Flyer of Your Desire.” Indeed.
The story of this match is the classic High-Flyer vs. the Crushing Brute. Dawson uses lots of power moves like a few Bearhugs to crush the air out of his dextrous opponent and maybe crack his ribs.
And my oh my — can Everett sell it! I can tell he’s been practicing his craft for over a decade because he knows how to do anguish, and the blessed holy cameraman gets it all for us up close.
The beast works on the mid-section of our sexy Baby-Face — hugging him from front and back and stomping his stomach as much as possible.
After whipping Everett into the ropes, he delivers that big knee to the gut that makes the victim flip head over heels onto his back — I love that move!
An Over the Shoulder Backbreaker — really!?! I haven’t seen a nice one of these in years (hey, why don’t they use this move any more — I love this move!)
And Everett’s wavy hair flapping in the breeze, his stretchy trunks, and his beyoootiful expressions of agony all add to the drama of the hold. The camera takes us right inside the ring until we can almost feel Everett’s hot panting breath on our cheek.
So I just bring your attention to this match because it impressed me in several ways when I watched it — the skills and moves of both wrestlers, the quality of the cinematography, the eye-catching gear and physique on the Baby-Face. This is better wrestling than we often see in the big federations, and it reminds me in many ways of the sort of matches that kept me satisfied and mellow all through high school…
These kinds of matches are always super hot!! This falls into the archetype of Face vs. Heel matches: the kinds that haven’t been seen since the days of pre-NWO/pre-Attitude Era WCW/WWF and GWF!!
Good post, Arsenal!
The CWF always does a superior job with camera work on their matches… And count me as another fan who is pleased that Andrew dropped the ridiculous ‘chiva kid’ gimmick. To hide that face and body under a stupid costume should be a crime …
