Meet the New Boss

Back in January 2014, I coined the phrase “Cena Position” to describe that kneeling pose frequently used by John Cena to express his weakness and submission.  At the time, Randy Orton was the Big Swinging Dick who would often stand over Cena in dominance, looking down with contempt or posing arrogantly over the beaten muscle-man.

One of the images in that gallery was this photo of Seth Rollins in the role of Master, standing over a submissive Cena who is gripping his pockets suggestively.

Little did I know when I posted that image last year that Seth’s dominance over Cena would become a Thing, that Cena would frequently and consistently degrade himself before the now-powerful Seth Rollins throughout 2014.

Here are several more images of Cena degrading himself by kneeling before Rollins, using his habitual pose of defeat and depletion, his strength drained, begging for mercy (or perhaps offering to humiliate himself even further for the Man in Black’s pleasure…)

Here is an image capturing the Changing of the Guard.  Randy Orton was formerly Cena’s go-to Master, the man whose crotch Cena would most often kneel before.

But here Randy watches from outside the ropes as Cena degrades himself for the new Big Swinging Dick: Seth Rollins.  Meanwhile Seth shows off for Orton, pushing the envelope by Tea Bagging the fan favorite.  The ref restrains Orton from getting involved, which reveals that Orton wants his toy back.

That brings up another interesting aspect of the Cena Position photos that I am noticing.  The photos almost always include a witness to Cena’s humiliation — a Third Party voyeur whom we see observing Rollins as he puts his junk in Cena’s face.

For example, in this case the ref is our voyeur, looking a bit disgusted by Cena’s utter submission and helplessness.  The inclusion of the Third Party adds the element of jealousy — the voyeur seems to also want to own a Muscle Jobber, just like all of us watching the show wish we owned a submissive John Cena or similar swole jobber.

Cena grips Rollins’ belt to pull him in closer, to create a more humiliating scene.

One really must give John Cena credit for degrading himself like this on a frequent basis — for swallowing his masculine pride, accepting the role of Beta Male, and willingly submitting to another man’s power (whether the stronger man is Orton, Rollins, or any other Alpha Male.)

Cena seems to understand that wrestling fans love to see Superman drained of his power, that we get off on the image of a buff man (who ought to be in a dominant position) ceding his authority to a weaker but more aggressive male. Cena is perfectly willing to lower himself to degrading levels of Bitch-ass-ness, and for that, we love him.
