One of the most compelling new characters in pro wrestling this year, especially from a homo-erotic perspective, has been this flamboyant sissy in the Ring of Honor federation — Dalton Castle. He first caught my eye back in March when he burst through the ROH curtain in a shiny bodysuit, attended by two toadying male slaves he refers to as his Boyzzzz.
Actually, this same wrestler was discussed back in February when he appeared on the card at National Pro Wrestling Day as “Ashley Remington.” The dude is just brimming with charm and charisma, and the crowd eats up whatever persona he feeds them. Here are images from a recent Dalton Castle appearance, rife with homo-erotic innuendo and audience adoration, which appeared on the ROH television program over the summer.
Castle proceeds to tease the audience, calling them “BOYS” as if he is inviting any man in the audience to serve as one of his subservient male slaves. Rather than reacting in homo-phobic vitriol, the presumably straight dudes at ringside enjoy the flirtation. My, how wrestling (and the world) has changed!
Dalton snaps his fingers telling his Boyz to get down on the floor. It is notable that Castle is not abusive toward his Boyz, and they enjoy their submissive roles. Clearly the Boyz are eager to serve him, as is true in any Master-Slave relationship between consenting adults.
The Boyz lean back to form a human couch for Castle, each slave reclining on the other’s knee. This demonstrates their willing submissiveness to Master Castle — their efforts to please him and make him more comfortable, which is what makes any slave feel fulfilled.
A nervous laugh and rumble of appreciation rolls through the crowd when Castle reclines on his man-couch, leaning across the chests of his Boyz. The fans have never seen THIS before in a pro wrestling ring, and their first reaction seems to be: Wow, what a fuckin turn-on!
But every party needs a homo-phobic dickhead to spoil the fun. This no-nonsense Heel — Silas Young — takes offense at Castle and his Boyz. Young refers to himself as the “Last Real Man” in wrestling. He lumbers around hairy-chested and moustached like a hyper-masculine redneck — like one of your dad’s hunting buddies who jokes about raping women, drives a big beater truck, and smirks and shakes his head in disappointment if he overhears that you watch Project Runway.
Young wrestled against Castle in June at the “Best in the World” show on 6/19/15, and little Dalton Castle managed to defeat the “Real Man” (thanks to the support of his Boyz.) As a Real Man, of course Young is outraged over being defeated by a pack of flamboyant sissies.
By referring to himself as the only “Real Man,” Castle further emasculates Silas Young who considers himself the last Real Man. But we sense that we have not heard the last from Young, and this arrogant boasting will come back to haunt Castle and his Boyz.
The contrast in their personalities, the key to any good wrestling feud, is obvious. The timing of this clash is also on point with the recent controversy over gay marriage. The most interesting aspect is that the queer is being cast as the Baby-Face for once, and the audience supports him.
The stage is set — the next chapter will look at how this modern culture clash progresses.
