The Mexican wrestling program known as “Lucha Underground” has launched their second season. The 2/3/16 episode included their primary Baby-Face (or técnico) in a Tag Team partnership with his frenemy, Pentagon Jr. The match has been posted on YouTube.
For some unexplained reason, Puma and Pentagon must wrestle three opponents — the trio known as the “Disciples of Death.” We know they’re villains because they wear scary skull masks and long black tights. Do we detect some tension between the two heroes?
If you enjoy seeing the heroic Prince Puma suffering shirtless in his sexy animal-print tights, be sure to view this video (or pretty much any episode of Lucha Underground.)
Poor Puma eats some black boots to the skull before collapsing on the mat to suffer gorgeously for our viewing pleasure. He is great at what he does: rag-dolling like a jobber bitch.
There is something unique about the style and presentation of Lucha Underground. The camera work is cinematic, like a movie. The stories they tell are more dramatic and fanciful than traditional wrestling. And the episodes are seasonal with breaks in between seasons like a TV show.
Last month, old-timey manager Jim Cornett went on a rant in opposition to Lucha Underground, calling it “the most heinous horse shit” and saying: “It’s a TV show. It’s a movie. It’s not wrestling.”
Well, what is wrestling? It’s not exactly like the sexy grunt & groan 80’s action we loved then, but times have changed and “wrestling” has changed.
Yes, the scenes between matches are scripted and dramatic, but many wrestling programs give us cheesy between-match vignettes to build the characters. Yes, there is less mat wrestling and more flipping around than we grew up on, but wrestling jumped that shark decades ago. Yes the show feels more like a film with the high production quality, dramatic mood lighting and background music, not similar to the old studio wrestling programs with bright lights and tiny venues, but L.U. still gives viewers a boner.
The important thing about Lucha Underground, which will keep me coming back for more, is that it’s hot — like when they allow three villains to beat up Prince Puma as his partner watches and acts disinterested.
So I’m willing to adjust to the dramatic story-telling and creative new presentation style if I am continuing to be turned on by it. You can always go find more traditional styles of wrestling old and new, this is just another flavor. Certainly not every match will float my boat, but this triple-team beating on the lovable Prince Puma is working for me. Long live Lucha Underground!
Questions are raised about the loyalty of Puma’s partner. These frenemies apparently had issues in the past. Is Pentagon worthy of Puma’s trust? Does Pentagon even care that Puma is suffering and needs assistance?
The fact that these questions are even surfacing means Puma is in trouble!
Bravely summoning his inner strength, Puma nails his dangerous flippy move off the top rope to crush his opponent. But watch Pentagon slap Puma’s leg to become the Legal Man.
Pentagon then slides into the ring to cover the helpless Heel and win the match. After lazily watching Puma suffer for the entire match, Pentagon just stole the glory from his own partner!
Prince Puma turns to politely exit the ring and Pentagon attacks his own partner from behind, once again targeting his neck with this back-busting “Lung Blower” move.
What has Puma done wrong to warrant this injustice from his own partner?! He served as Face In Peril for most of the match, eating the lion’s share of the Heel offense. Pentagon is the cocky bastard who stole all the glory, yet here we see Pentagon punishing his partner!!
Pentagon has this dreadful Arm Breaker move that he’s used to put numerous Luchadores in a cast for weeks. Here he prepares to snap the beloved Puma’s arm!
This image is so powerful and exciting, the Lucha Underground promoters posted it on their Facebook page to advertise their hot new style of wrasslin’. I won’t spoil the surprise by telling you whether Puma’s arm got snapped by his aggressive and sadistic Tag Team partner.
