Here is an entertaining Indy pro match on YouTube from the Pro Wrestling Eclipse federation. This bout is from their “March Mayhem 2015” event posted to YouTube in March 2016.
Buck Gunderson is clearly the Heel in his black caveman singlet and obnoxious wine-red tights. His opponent is a spectacular slab of muscle in bulging silver shorts named Ray Steele. What a perfect mis-match in bodies and attitudes!
For the smaller villain to plausibly dominate the Superman, we need to see some Kryptonite explaining how the weaker man gains control. Ray Steele’s weakness proves to be every Real Man’s weakness: his nuts.
After Gunderson slithers out of the ring to take a rest (the coward!), Steele chases after him. As the Big Swinging Dick steps between the ropes to rejoin his opponent in the ring, the nasty cheater kicks the rope to bust the big guy’s balls. Steele never really recovers from this emasculation.
Steele plays the weakened stud very well, sprawling across the mat to reveal his impressive pecs and lats, draping his swole guns on the ropes so Gunderson can target his exposed torso. It’s great to see that these gratuitous displays of restrained male power, which many of us grew up enjoying, are still featured in the Indy federations.
Gunderson is arrogant and charismatic as he humiliates the Hero — what a boner-inspiring Bad Guy. His gear is spot on — his one-strap singlet, his flamboyant red leggings, and a pair of queer little white boots resembling high-top sneakers.
Wrestlers with fantastic chests often suffer prolonged pectoral abuse, and Steele is no exception. He frequently and foolishly locks his own arms over the top rope (I love when jobbers do that!) so Steele can touch, slap, and chop that massive upper torso.
The implication is that Gunderson is targeting his opponent’s greatest strengths to take away his weapons. Earlier, Steele’s impressive bulge was crotched on the middle rope, and now his super-human chest is beaten into mush. “Steele” is certainly an ironic (and therefore perfect) name for a strong man who is so vulnerable and easily subdued.
For me, the climax of this muscle squash scene occurs when Gunderson applies this gorgeous Figure 4 Headscissor. You sure don’t see this sexy hold very often any more (unfortunately). The shiny red tights just add to the visual appeal, as he grinds on the pressure and Steele grows weak and floppy.
This is another example of Kryptonite to explain Steele’s inferiority to Gunderson. Even the strongest body-builder can do little to strengthen his throat and windpipe, and two legs are always stronger than one neck. So it’s understandable that the smaller (but far more effective) Gunderson is able to use Headscissors to dominate his larger opponent.
Oh that’s just beautiful. The ref repeatedly picks up Steele’s massive arm to see if there is any strength left in it. But it drops as soft and floppy as a limp dick. Ray Steele is clearly a well-trained muscle jobber, building up his physique to massive proportions, but then portraying his strength being drained out of him, his potential power subverted and restrained, his muscles worthless.
Gunderson’s relentless legs, scissoring away without mercy, have turned the tables on the stronger man.
Gunderson asserts his masculine dominance with this classic move. Rolling his victim face-down, he maintains the scissor and begins grinding his hips rhythmically, repeatedly banging the humiliated chump’s face into the mat.
This move gives the impression that there is power in the dominant wrestler’s legs and hips, that a pounding from him is sure to leave even the strongest man dazed.
Again Gunderson grips the big squeeze-toy between his thighs to imply dominance, this time mounting him from behind and riding him.
It makes perfect sense that the only comment posted so far under this video is “buck gunderson is awesome.” No mention of big Ray Steele or the other dozen wrestlers on the card.
A gorgeous Torso-Stretcher forces Steel to tap out. It surprises me that Gunderson ends the match fair and square, not resorting to trickery. This is another assertion of his power over Steele, not needing to cheat to win.
Steele is presented as a complete jobber by the use of these moves traditionally reserved for the lowliest Enhancement Talent. He was Scissor-Humped (see above), spiked into the turnbuckles, forced to tap out — these are the sort of humiliations used on a Chump, not a Champ.
These two wrestlers not only performed a basic one-sided muscle-squash, but they went all in. Muscle-man Steele is not just shown to be a loser, but a complete wuss, the sort of submissive boy toy that any one of us could control (which is the appeal of this sort of match).
After Steele taps out and the bell has rung, Gunderson maintains his nasty Chickenwing for a few extra seconds, another symbol of his power and Steele’s utter jobberness.
This match is gloriously sexy. It mirror the appeal of Zema Ion’s dismantlement of Anthony Nese; the aesthetically AND physically inferior man dominating the bigger, more attractive man. Stereotype tells us that Steele was supposed to be the dominator, yet he was embarrassed by his awkwardly attired, out of shape opponent (who seemed to visibly enjoy Steele being at his mercy). Hot.
Also have to add; the fact that the crowd were chanting “Ray’s gonna kill you” at the beginning of the match, makes the outcome of this bout that much sweeter.
