After his surprise return to the ring (see my previous article about the Masked Saint movie), our hero knew that his wrestling addiction is too strong to resist. He began leading a secret life — working as preacher at a rundown church by day, and putting on his sexy mask to wrestle dudes by night.
Several brief clips of his matches are interspersed between scenes of him lecturing his congregation or basking in the love of his family. Here he wrenches a gorgeous back-busting submission out of some helpless jobber.
Here we see the Saint dominating the big beefy Titan — the huge biceped guy that the Saint went to watch earlier in the film. We get the sense that the Saint has been itching to get shirtless down on the mat with this big slab of meat ever since he swooned over him while in the audience.
But the climax of the film would be a Cage Match between the Saint and his nemesis, the evil Reaper, who deliberately broke the masked man’s leg at the beginning of the film.
The Saint knows this match is going to get brutal and possibly bloody, and he knows his suffering is going to be spectacular, so he decides to wrestle without his trademark mask. GREAT — I can’t wait to see that handsome face twisted in suffering! Do the makers of this film even realize how homo-erotically arousing that will be!
The Saint appears especially vulnerable with his pale flesh and no mask, standing face-to-face with the much larger Reaper.
We’re treated to a suggestive verbal exchange:
Reaper (gravelly voice): It’s been a long time for the second coming, Saint!
Saint: I’m coming for that belt.
Reaper: You’ll have to rip it from my cold, dead body.
Saint: Your choice.
The domination by the big Reaper begins right after the bell when he kicks the Saint in the face to level him. Normally the Good Guy gets to shine for a little while, but for this match, they skip right to the suffering and I can respect that.
The Saint is wonderfully submissive, allowing the big man to spike his face into the corner and generally toss him around. Someone did a good job teaching the actor, Brett Granstaff, how to sell.
What I love in movies about pro wrestling is the use of camera tricks to highlight the drama and stir up our emotions. Check out this dramatic slow-motion Clothesline, with the victim flipping slowly, ass-over-applecart to crash land on the mat. He’s not just hurt by this move — he’s destroyed!
We also get some comments from the audience about the apparent realism and brutality of the fight, with the Saint’s wife trying to reassure his daughter that daddy is just playing around with the big man and having fun in the cage.
The Saint’s white tights (with “Saint” written prominently across the ass) are emphasized as he scissors the Reaper, only to find himself slammed, his legs sprawled out for our viewing pleasure.
This Reaper, by the way, looks buff and powerful as he dominates his victim. He makes a terrific Heel! His name is James Preston Rogers and I had to check out his IMDB page to see if he wrestles. Actually he trained with WWE for a while but ended up quitting to act in movies instead.
By the way, after my last Masked Saint article, someone asked who played the Ice Man. Per IMDB, his name is RJ Skinner and he is actually a pro wrestler (and a hot one) who calls himself “RJ City.”
Of course Good must triumph over Evil, so the Saint wrenches a submission out of the Reaper thanks to his white-clad legs.
The scene ends with a demonstration of man-love. The Saint stands over his foe and offers the hand of forgiveness and the Reaper takes his hand as if they’re getting married.
Even though the Reaper had broken our hero’s leg in their last match, and was trying to break his back in this match, they still bond together in brotherly love. This is a nice happy ending and I dig the chemistry between these guys.
I gotta hand it to ya, Arsensal …
I went to check out the Neverland review after you posted part one of this series and he was a lot more critical of the film than you seemed to be. I thought you may just give up on the whole thing but you stuck with it and I appreciate the review.
I think I would enjoy the “ring” scenes in this for sure and the lead actor is undeniably hot, but … I just don’t know if I could suffer through the religious pontificating whether its suble or not … maybe if it ever makes it netflix … but in the meantime, your write-up will have to suffice … thanks
