Suddenly my attention turns to La Máscara.
I found this Mexican wrestling match posted to YouTube on 9/9/16. My interest was raised when I realized it was a Mask-vs-Mask match, which are always exciting battles ending with the loser being forced to unmask in utter shame.
My interest was raised further when I saw La Máscara perform his trademark strip-tease, first subduing his opponent, Dragon Lee, then ripping off his pants to reveal a skimpy two-toned bikini.
No wonder many Luchadores wear full bodysuits.
We get the impression that these two opponents are not only competing in wrestling — trying to determine who will force the other to unmask — but also competing in sex appeal, over who can wear the most revealing trunks.
I don’t recall Mexican wrestlers being this buff or this naked. Usually they’re fairly chubby and clothed almost completely from wrist to foot. Maybe they’ve figured out that wrestling is meant to be a turn-on. I guess I will need to start watching more Lucha Libre videos!
He turns Dragon Lee into a Dragon Lady.
La Máscara dominates Dragon Lee with tons of brutal, punishing, sexually suggestive offense. For example, here he busts his victim’s testicles on the ringside fence and then boots him in the face. Dragon Lee falls in some lucky fan’s lap and lays there for a while.
It appears La Máscara is determined to keep his mask on. I guess if you call yourself La Máscara (“The Mask“), your career could be finished if you lose said mask!

The most entertaining Eye Candy wrestlers are the ones who realize that they’re pure Eye Candy — in the ring for the main purpose of flirting, posing, strutting, and gyrating to excite the audience. La Máscara understands and delivers the sex appeal, removing clothing in the midst of the match (always sexier than undressing before the match) and pausing the fight periodically to bump and grind.
I was about to type that this is the point in the match where I fell in love with La Máscara, but actually that happened earlier when he tore off his white pants…
Back in March, I wrote about La Máscara and his sadistic partner, Rush, in the Tag Team known as Los Ingobernables. Revisiting those galleries now, I am so impressed — damn I do good work if I do say so myself!
Anyway, it seems Rush and La Máscara have broken up since March. We now see Rush in a fancy kingpin suit interfering in this match, helping his new buddy Dragon Lee to attack La Máscara from behind and win the first fall!
In Lucha Libre, they still use actual wrestling holds to hurt their opponents!
I’ve written several times on the symbolism of being unmasked in Mexican wrestling. This match touches on many of those themes. For example, my “Stripped of Privacy” article from May 2013 compares it to identify theft and being raped.
My “Persecution of a Saint” article from December 2011 describes illegal unmasking as breaking a taboo — a transgression that seems exciting because it is naughty and wrong. My “Exposed” article from March 2011 compares Luchadores to superheroes and their unmasking as a cruel end to their careers and livelihood.
Horny Rush just can’t keep his hands off his former partner. When La Máscara climbs the ropes, Rush pushes him off, which inspires the ref to award the second fall to La Máscara.
So they’re tied One Fall to One Fall! And Rush has played a role in both victories, which marks him as the third participant in this love triangle.
In a couple days, I will post the ending of this match and you can see who ends up losing and being unmasked in humiliation. Then you can see what Rush does after that — it’s spicy. If you can’t wait two days, you can always just go watch the video.
