My Favorite Vice

justiceVice2justiceVice1One of my loyal readers recently e-mailed me a heads up about his new favorite wrestler:

I was wondering if you’ve heard of Sonny Vice, a 21 year old who wrestles for two promotions I think out of the Pennsylvania area.  I saw a sample of YouTube and was hooked.”

Seems he’s been around for 8-10 months (?) and is getting quite the push.  Hell, in one promotion he already had a match for Heavyweight Champion and lost of course…   Boy does he sell those moves when he’s being brutalized!”

You can see a sample here, when he feuded with his trainer — Matthew Justice.

justiceVice3justiceVice5Sonny Vice in the powder blue trunks is portraying the Eager Rookie — young, inexperienced, gullible, but scrappy as hell.

Matt Justice, who trained young Sonny Boy, has long hair and black trunks like a classic wrasslin’ Heel.

Did Justice train Vice on how to survive a boot to the brain?

Did Justice train Vice on how to survive a boot to the brain?

Sonny shows promise early in the match, but his trainer grows weary of his antics and Sick Kicks him right out of the ring!

Justice is being a bit too hard on his young trainee.

sonnyCrockettThe Sonny Vice character is a reference to the 1980’s sex idol, Don Johnson.  Let me try to explain this reference f0r you youngsters.  The hottest show on television in the late 1980’s was a detective series called Miami Vice, which featured Don Johnson as the hero — a slick, flirtatious, well-dressed cop named “Sonny Crockett.”  Johnson was on all the Sexiest Man Alive lists at the time, and wrestler Sonny Vice is trying to co-opt that sexy mojo with his referential gimmick.

Crockett always wore a white suit over pastel-colored shirts in baby blue, pink, or turquoise.  Sonny Vice pays homage to the iconic clothing by wearing his baby blue trunks.  My only question is why young Vice would choose this gimmick when the show ended about ten years before he was born?

Clearly Vice is well-trained on how to suffer!

The match (or beat-down may be more accurate) takes on a Daddy-vs-Son vibe as Justice proceeds to punish Vice outside the ring.

I love this beautiful Body-Slam on the hard wooden ramp.  Sonny Vice sells the fuck out of it, proving to his trainer that he can take a bump and make it look spectacular.

Nice one -- Justice always prevails.

Nice one — Justice always prevails.

Matt Justice is a Heel Beast, and he looks stunning and strong in his skimpy black trunks.  I recognize him from an article I wrote in March 2014 called “I Heart NYWC.”  Justice was a member of the buff body-builder Tag Team known as “Athletic Inc.”  He punished his chubby opponents with a bunch of spectacular power moves, including a gorgeous Headscissor.

Justice punished his trainee's spine several times with this cool Irish Whip maneuver.

I enjoyed this Falling Irish Whip move that Justice repeatedly inflicted on Vice.  To gain momentum and force, Justice falls onto his back, using gravity and body-weight to propel his 165-pound opponent into those rock solid corner turnbuckles.

Poor Sonny Vice is clearly out-matched and helpless, but the trainer wants to teach him a lesson — in respect.

Get your ass back out to the floor where you belong!

The power differential is again demonstrated when Vice tries to Cross-Body his trainer, but big strong Justice catches him against his chest like a paper bag blowing in the wind.

Justice then tosses the young hopeful right over the ropes and outside the ring (again) like a jobber bitch.

THAT will teach this rookie to try to man up and grow some balls.

THAT will teach this rookie to try to man up and grow some balls.

I’ve watched a few Sonny Vice videos now that I’m obsessed with him, and this nutting on the top rope seems to happen to him often.  He climbs up high as if he’s going to unleash some flashy Flippity-Doo-Dah move, only to be bounced off his feet where he invariably busts his balls on the turnbuckle pad.  His powerful offense is suddenly neutered.

justiceVice13justiceVice14So chalk up another victory for Age & Experience over Youth & Excitement as daddy Matt Justice defeats Sonny Boy Vice.  Thanks to my reader for turning me on to this down-trodden and lovable rookie.

One more interesting thing happened after Justice was declared the Alpha Male.  Some young guy in the crowd (who presumably loves Sonny Vice as much as I do) stepped up to challenge the beefy champ.  We get the sense that this fan wants to rescue his vulnerable hero, to defend young Vice from this hard-ass villain.  This kid is putting himself in harm’s way to protect the one he loves, which I think is adorable.  (Luckily the ref broke it up before Matt Justice murdered the drunken horn-dog…)

Love the write up. Another favorite moment is another match when the heel has poor Sonny in a prolonged abdominal stretch and the camera comes in close and the heel rubs Sonny’s chest and armpit and if there was a bubble caption from him it would be an evil “Yeah baby. Just look at this kid’s body.”
