Let’s take another look at the bloody, violent, sadistic world of Tiger Mask — the anime series with a pro wrestling theme that was popular in Japan over 30 years ago and is now available on You Tube. (Sorry, I’m still not over my obsession with this badass cartoon, so if you’re not into cartoon wrestling, please bear with me…)
Tiger Mask’s opponent this time is a sadistic villain named Mad Devil. I think that’s his name, but I don’t speak Japanese or Italian (the official languages of Tiger Mask) so I can’t be sure what they call him. I would think he’d be called Shark-Man or something given his gray skin and razor sharp fangs.
The Mad Devil is sharp all over. In addition to those fangs, Tiger Mask learns that his elbows are sharp, his boots are sharp (able to draw blood when he kicks), and even his knees are sharp when he stabs them down into your arm. He even grabs a fountain pen and jabs the sharp metal tip into Tiger Masks arm. This vicious freak pierces Tiger Mask with a variety of sharp items, drawing blood several times, which adds to the violence of the imagery, injecting the entire scene with a more brutal, more intense flavor.
The cruel cheater enjoys using foreign objects as weapons, beating on poor Tiger Mask with anything he finds at ringside. He gets off on choking as well, wrapping a phone wire around the hero’s throat. This all had to be quite titillating for the impressionable Japanese viewers who witnessed this bloody brutality. No wonder Japanese guys are into some wild fetishes and unusual sex practices if they were exposed to this level of arousing, sadistic punishment in their Saturday morning cartoons! (I bet I would’ve never missed an episode either, by the way. I bet I would’ve sat about 2 inches away from the screen until everyone else in the room told me I would make a better door than a window…)
