Patriot’s Day

Have you seen Cam Zagami’s ring gear lately?  As if he isn’t pretty enough already, he is now wearing spectacular white tights with an American flag down one leg.  This is traditional Baby-Face gear, the costume of a Captain America.   Young Marcus Bagwell wore flag tights like these when he and the Patriot portrayed a pair of muscular freedom-fighters.

But Cam Zagami is no Good Guy.  He has flipped the script by being cute and wearing the gear of an American Hero while also acting like a devious dickhead Heel.

I recently found this brief video of the final minutes of a Tag Team match in which Zagami disrespects the flag by acting like a prick while wearing the stars ‘n stripes.  When his partner crawls over to reach for a helping hand, Zagami turns his back and walks away.  PSYCH!

This is the ultimate betrayal in Tag Team wrestling — a sure indicator of a “Heel Turn.”

To add to the humiliation, Zagami’s partner, Tyler Nitro, is being beaten up by a female opponent who elbows him in the throat to knock him on his ass.  We see that the power of the male-male bond has been negated, leaving Nitro vulnerable now that the Bromance is over.  We see the feminine triumphing over the masculine once the male relationship has been severed.

Tyler is viciously spiked into the mat, sprawling out provocatively.  This places his nearly-naked body in the traditional female position — on his back, submissive and non-resistant, his bare flesh on display to attract the male gaze.

Zagami’s abandonment has ruined Tyler Nitro, draining his masculine strength and leaving him weak and limp like a bitch.

I liked this pinning position with Tyler’s legs spread apart to expose his ass and taint as the female wrestler lays down on him in the traditional male position.

Tyler’s leg is poking straight up in the air like a stiffy — a big, erect, but utterly impotent hard-on just waving in the breeze.

Zagami then attacks, proving his evil nature in spite of his patriotic costume.

Before the turn of the century, pretty-boys like Cam Zagami were the default Baby-Faces in pro wrestling.  The standard issue Good Guys were white, cute/handsome, in great shape, and dressed in brightly colored gear including red, white, and blue.

But now the White Male has a target on his back.  He is considered privileged (i.e., spoiled), most likely sexist and racist, and politically dangerous.  This change in society’s opinion of the (White) Boy Next Door, I believe, is now manifesting in the pro wrestling ring.  Young white studs in their patriotic gear have now become the villains, no longer the automatic Beloved Fan Favorites.

Zagami then orders his big fat minion (Mike Gamble) to Pancake poor Tyler, splashing down to crush his ribs under that massive bulk. They really want to break this poor kid!

Oh damn!  The minion continues to lay on Nitro, slowly crushing him, and THEN ZAGAMI TAKES A SEAT on his minion’s back and begins to trash talk on the microphone!  I love when a cocky Heel bastard uses other men as a chair.  Me next.

“Tyler Nitro isn’t going ANYwhere so I’m gonna say a few words…  I come in here, more fresh than a Donald Trump tweet, looking as handsome as ever, taking it from Dud to Stud… (Note the Trump reference.)

“Tyler — I know you’re drowsier than Whitney Houston in a bathtub, but let me tell you something: you are TRASH.”  (Literally trash talk.)

We’ve seen other Heels in recent years co-opting and tarnishing the traditional American Patriot personal.  Claudio Castagnoli for example, who isn’t even American, wore flag trunks and waved our flag in our faces while acting like a prick.  He besmirched our beloved flag just by holding it while behaving like that!

The wearing of American flag gear by these modern White Meat Heels aligns with the current narrative we hear in the media about the evils of the USA.  America is presented as the exploiters, polluters, and war mongers of the world, so the White Meat Heels use over-the-top patriotism to signal to the fans a greedy, hateful, violent nature.

Then Cam Zagami makes my heart skip a beat when he tells Tyler Nitro: “I am gonna put YOU in the American Grip.”

Oh man, I love it when a wrestler announces what hold he’s going to apply next, then he goes and applies it.  It drives home his superiority over the defenseless victim.  The name of his finishing hold — the American Grip — again references his nationalism and political power.  It’s also a sexy sounding move — “American GRIP” — I can’t wait to see him slap it on…

First Zagami slams his victim’s face into the mat, just as the female wrestler had done earlier.  He entangles Nitro in the dreaded American Grip,  which appears to be a seated Cobra Clutch.  Then the privileged, arrogant white patriot shows off his cruel nature by refusing to release the deadly hold for a long time.   Amer-i-ca — FUCK YEAH!
