Legalized Torture

The Heels’ Corner in a Tag Team match is a fascinating space in our society because it symbolizes and represents a Torture Chamber — but one that operates openly in plain sight.

A torture chamber is a place where the sadistic get to have their way, inflicting intense physical pain on a restrained victim to compel his submission.  But what is most shocking about the Heels’ Corner is that nobody seriously tries to stop the cruel torture.

There are many similarities between a  traditional Torture Chamber and the Heels’ Corner — both involve being trapped and having no easy escape.  Both are used to inflict intense pain, often using creative or unusual tactics.  The victim is physically over-whelmed and restrained, either by ropes or an attacker’s grip.  In both a Torture Chamber and the Heels’ Corner, there is no one to help — all potential rescuers are restrained or blocked — or don’t know about the torture.

Torture Chambers exist to force compliance from the victim — to break his spirit using physical pain and psychological degradation to compel him to confess or reveal secrets.  In pro wrestling, the Heels’ Corner is used to force a submission as well — to break the spirit of one of the wrestlers and compel him to say “Uncle!”

Torture Chambers continue to exist in modern society for two primary reasons: either they’re unseen and hidden (so the government can’t shut them down) or they’re endorsed by the leaders (like Abu Ghraib) so the sheepish masses accept and allow the torture as if it’s a normal activity.  Psychological studies have shown most people will accept (and even participate in) torture if told to do it by an authority figure.

In pro wrestling, the Heels’ Corner combines both situations: first, the torture is concealed from the distracted ref — the “law” and morality in the ring — even though everyone else can plainly see it.

Second, the promoters who run the pro wrestling federations apparently permit and condone these tactics — no serious efforts are undertaken to stop the  torture — so the fans in the audience sheepishly allow (and perhaps even enjoy) the portrayal of torture.  In fact, torture in the Heels’ Corner is so common in pro wrestling, it’s become accepted and even expected by polite people who would otherwise be outraged to see such brutality happening in public.

First Series of Pic’s ( top ) I believe the 2 Heels working over the sexie Latino would be John Tolos and Black Gordman— 2 of the best Heels in the West coast..L.A. and San Francisco regions. Tolos would team with his brother Chris at times, as Gordman teamed with another latino Heel, known as Goliath. In certain arena’s ie: The Olympic Auditorium, Tolos would sometimes team with Gordman as seen here, again creating a team that loved to punish and destroy their victims.
If you look at the first 3 top pic’s of this set, the guy getting punished isn’t showing much of a buldge. In the 1st pic of the second row, Tolos has released his victims trunks, yet his hand remains against the kids gut area. Look closer, and Tolos’ thumb seems to be placed on top of the kid’s package. ( thats what I see ) Move to the next pic, Tolos’ thumb now moved away from being on top of said package, and TO WHAT SHOULD OUR WONDERING EYES now see? The victim now has what I would call…..”Total Enjoyment” from being worked over ( and fondeled ) by Tolos. Tell me if im crazy…..but do any of you guy’s out there see the same as myself?

Once a month me and my tag partner, wrestle a tough muscled jobber in an uneven promission match. 2 on 1 corner workovers are our specialty, they are elaborately planned sadistic rituals designed to torture our opponent and bring new thresholds of pain and punishment. A corner dominated by masked tormentors providing an arsenal of agony, inescapable for our muscled jobber where the only out is for him to endure our creative dirty rough-house pro tactics; chokes, nerve holds, pec claws, elbows jabs to the gut, karate chops, hair pulling, spitting, nose yanks and the well placed sharp lift of a knee into his speedo.

Our jobber has come to expect such behavior, wanting two brutal sadistic heels to dominate him physically, showing off how much he can endure, not only his hard earned muscles, but inner strength and resilience, showing toughness, resilience, and the corner work is in addition to all the brutal wrestling we do with him. Suffering the heels corner brings humility in that the jobber is offering his body for abuse, his ability to endure gives us heels great gratification.
