Late last year, this Blog talked about when CM Punk humiliated Alberto Del Rio by dousing him with a bottle of water. The scene had a salacious, homo-erotic feel, as if Punk had discharged his fluid all over the helpless man’s face and chest. Well now Punk has gotten a couple tastes of the degrading money-shot, courtesy of his new enemy Chris Jericho.
On the April 2nd episode of “Raw”, Jericho attacked Punk after Punk’s debilitating loss to Mark Henry. Jericho decided to wear skin-tight leather pants for this beat-down, which added a sexy, sadistic tone to the scene (leather is the official fabric of gay bondage). He whipped out a bottle of whiskey and dumped the brown fluid all over Punk’s face, then busted it on Punk’s head.
C.M. Punk lives a “Straight Edge” lifestyle, meaning he refrains from alcohol and drugs. He is like some kind of innocent virgin. Jericho wants to ruin his rival by turning him into an alcoholic, by forcing him to drink evil spirits. Jericho is also symbolically defiling Punk by spewing nasty liquid on his body and face. Laying in the wet spot, totally soaked and humiliated, Punk can see how Del Rio felt last year when Punk dumped water on him.
A week or so later, Jericho struck again (wearing those eye-catching and homo-erotic black leather trousers again.) This time he disabled Punk and doused him with about 8 or 10 cans of beer. He just kept popping open can after can and letting loose a stream of liquid — discharging a record amount of fluid by one wrestler onto the body of another. I don’t suppose I’m the only one in the world who sees the pouring of liquid by one man onto the face and chest of another as almost a sexual assault, a reference to the humiliating act of the facial. The can or bottle is like a phallic symbol, and the attacker is using the other man as a convenient place to dump his liquid.
I guess cocky CM Punk won’t think he’s cleaner and healthier than the rest of us — superior to us mere mortals with all of our addictions and fetishes — after this disgusting deflowering. Or maybe I’m reading too much into these attacks. Maybe sometimes a soaking is just a soaking. Here are some other images of pro wrestlers dousing their opponents in one type of liquid or another, so you can judge whether there is perhaps more going on in these scenes than two guys trying to win a wrestling competition…
