The NFL has experimented with putting microphones on the players, so you could hear their verbal exchanges, their trash talk,, the intimidating and outrageous comments and flirtations they exchange in the heat of battle.
I say they need to put microphones on pro wrestlers. When one is whispering in another’s ear, I want to know exactly what he’s saying.
Yes, we may hear them setting up their next moves (“I’ll miss the clothesline, then you trip me…”), but who cares? Aren’t we now beyond the pretense that wrestling is a legit competition, so let us get in the ring and listen?!
When I see a wrestler’s mouth moving, quietly making a speech only his opponent can hear, I want to know what is being said. Is he teasing the other man? Degrading him verbally? Offering him encouragement and advice?
Here are some images that approximate what one wrestler is probably saying to the other man at this exact moment. I don’t read lips, but I am a great interpreter of body language, so here is my best guess at what they’re saying (or should be saying.)
Who is that hairy chested guy getting his arm cranked in the Groan For Me, Boy Pic???
That is Angelico — a.k.a. Adam Bridle.
