Has there ever been one wrestler that you hoped you would see whenever you tuned in to watch wrestling? Did you ever say to yourself, even before the opening credits ran, I hope [name of your favorite wrestler] is going to wrestle today? Then when he does suddenly walk through the curtain to enter the ring, it’s like you hear choirs of angels singing…
For me, the guy I always hope to see in Ring of Honor wrestling is my man, Adam Cole. So this week’s episode of ROH was especially nice, because not only did I get to see Cole in action, he had to wrestle a big giant beast, AND he wore tight little fiery red trunks. Am I spoiled rotten now, or what!?
Poor Adam is short 4 inches and almost 70 pounds compared to this big ugly cannibal, yet he confidently faces off as if he is certain he will dominate. That is what makes Cole so fun to watch — that self-assured, almost arrogant over-confidence.
This episode of ROH will be available for a short time for free on their website so be sure to check it out right away. At least at the time I’m writing this, it’s still available. (By the way, there is so much great wrestling to see everywhere right now, just what I always wanted…)
Hanson unleashes these skull-shattering kicks to poor Cole’s head that just drop him. And when the beast delivers a Clothesline, he puts his whole chest into it and turns the smaller man inside out, flipping poor Cole like a pancake.
Nice variation of the old Slingshot by Hanson, sending my boy’s cute face directly into the ring post!
Although Cole is utterly wasted by Hanson’s aggressive Big Fucker offense, he also recovers very quickly. He will be ragdolled one moment, and then jump up suddenly and kick Hanson square in the leg.
The point of the match is to emphasize Cole’s ability to withstand pain, his Bad Ass indestructible nature. (Oh and the other point of the match is to show off Cole’s body in every possible position in those red nut-huggers…)
And it makes good narrative sense when Cole begins to strike at the big man’s knee as his Great Equalizer, knocking the poor dumb animal down by taking out his legs.
One of the commentators, Kevin Steen, continues his usual provocative Man-Crush comments directed at Cole. He says Cole had delivered a “gorgeous” elbow. His Figure Four Leglock is called “sexy.” Even his Arm-Drag is called “attractive.” He tells us Cole has the looks of an underwear model (not just any model, an underwear model…)
The other commentator then calls out Steen for using these overly gay terms when discussing Cole, but Steen plays innocent. I think Steen is portraying a closeted fan who denies, even to himself, having any attraction to the male wrestler, but his comments are shown to betray him, revealing his underlying lust through Freudian slip after Freudian slip. Steen’s suggestive comments also add an even stronger homo-erotic vibe to the match.
I would not have been too surprised if Cole had lost the match against this behemoth. But instead, Cole is put over by finishing off Hanson to gain the victory.
Then Cole reveals his usual dickish persona by insulting Hanson and working with Michal Bennett to “kick the crap” out of the big man.
As big Hanson lies broken at their feet, Cole and Bennett are the Lords of the Ring, talking trash and continuing to degrade the loser and his currently-injured partner.
Wow, when did Cole take a shower, he is dripping wet?! I sure hope [Adam Cole] is going to wrestle again next week!
