On 10/16/14, I blogged about Danny Duggan, the Baby-Face hero of West Coast Wrestling Connection, forced to fight two men at once. I titled the article “One is Greater Than Two” because brave Danny came out on top of his masked opponents, the “Dark Shadows.”
Well, the WCWC’s sadistic treatment of their good-looking Hero continued on their 1/17/15 episode, available on YouTube. Once again, poor Danny was thrown in the ring against two opponents, but this time, it was not a couple of Ham ‘N Eggers. This time, Danny had to endure the combined assault of the Tag Team Champs and all around bad-ass bullies: the Amerikan Gunz (Ethan HD and Mike Santiago.)
They never really explained during this broadcast (at least that I heard) why they made Danny fight two guys at once. Most double-team attacks are unsanctioned — a couple of cheaters working together to attack some chump. The strange thing about this two-on-one scene is that the federation ordered it.
Rather than a random sneak attack, the promoters arranged this unfair match deliberately, purposefully exposing Danny to the combined assault of this Tag Team. It just seems the bosses of an organization should be more unbiased and fair — not deliberately placing their most handsome employee in certain peril.
At least when they made Danny fight both of the Dark Shadows back in October, it was a “Handicap Match” meaning the two opponents had to tag in and out — Danny could focus on one at a time. This match against the Amerikan Gunz is a “Three-Way Dance” so both opponents get to beat on Duggan at the same time. This places him in even greater danger! And, the commentator mentions that the Gunz (for some other unexplained reason) will receive a bonus payment of $2,500 if they defeat Duggan — the bounty further inspiring them to really hurt him!
The commentators chat about the cruelty and nastiness of the Gunz to further emphasize their power advantage:
“Gunz in firm control,” “The Gunz are having a field day,” “The odds are stacked against Danny Duggan,” “The Amerikan Gunz are two of the meanest, cheatiest, dirtiest competitors.”
Call me sadistic, but I love it when the bullies just haul off and kick the kneeling Danny Duggan in the skull at the same time. He is a total sitting duck!
But it was not complete and total dominance by the Gunz (unfortunately) for the entire match. At 51:29 into the video, Danny was able to humiliate his torturers by tea-bagging one with the other’s bulging trunks, see below image.
The Gunz of course remain in that “compromising position” for a few extra seconds. the trapped wrestler smothered by ballsack, unable to extract his face from his partner’s crotch.
This homo-erotic scene — the crotch-to-face emasculation of the powerful Gunz — lends a narrative justification for the punishment they unleash on Danny. We are provided an explanation for why they want to hurt Danny so badly — not only because they’ll receive a $2,500 bonus, but also because he did THAT to them — he sissified them, which in the uber-masculine presentation of pro wrestling is totally unallowable.
One expects the Hero to overcome the odds and triumph in the end, as Danny had done against the Dark Shadows. However, the tide has turned in this match.
Ethan HD squats down on Danny’s face to pin him — exacting revenge for Danny’s earlier actions that caused Ethan to be teabagged by his own partner. If he emasculates you, emasculate him right back!
Then the cheater joins hands with someone outside the ring (actually a third nemesis for Danny — Alexander Hammerstone). This cheating explains how and why the Bad Guys are able to defeat the Hero. They had to break the rules and work three-on-one to overcome Danny’s positive spirit. Danny is left hanging his head in shame, regretting that he simply wasn’t Man Enough this time.
